The UK Appalachian Center, by engaging with academic and community leaders, combines the resources of the University into initiatives that will improve the quality of life in Appalachian Kentucky and the region as a whole. 

  • UK Growing Local Economies Initiative - new ways of approaching economic development in the Appalachian region
  • Appalachian IDEAS Network - an innovative social entrepreneurship competition for college student. NOTE: Starting in 2011 IDEAS will be administered by Berea College. 
  • Graduate Student Research Group - graduate students doing work on or in Appalachia meet regularly to discuss their research and get advice from faculty associates and from each other.
  • DIGITIZEMANIPUR is a private initiative by an international consortium for the digital preservation and conservation of Manipur’s ancient and endangered Tibeto-Burman manuscripts which are predominantly in Old Manipuri and written in the Meitei Mayek script. 
  • Rome Exchange - Scholars visiting UK from La Sapienza have been able to access field sites, archives and other research support and this has resulted in a rich bibliography of scholarly work on Appalachian and related topics.
