This competition is open to all U.S. residents at least 18 years of age. CONTEST IS VOID IN ARIZONA, NEW JERSEY, PUERTO RICO, VERMONT AND WHERE PROHIBITED.  Faculty and staff of The University of Kentucky are prohibited from competing for the cash prize, but they may still submit their photos.    

How to Enter
Entrants must complete the online contest registration form by May 2, 2011. Each entrant may submit up to three photos.

A $500 prize will be awarded for best overall photo. 2nd place winners will receive $150, 3rd place receives $100. Prize is to be awarded no later than June 15, 2011.

Photo Requirements
Submit up to three (3) high quality digital JPG files no larger than 4MB. Image must be at least 1,600 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,600 pixels tall (if a vertical image). All images should be free of text, such as watermarks, signatures, titles, etc.

Minor digital alterations (burning, dodging, color correction, contrast, etc.) are acceptable as long as the photo is not a deceptive depiction of the subject matter.

Submitted photographs must have been taken after May 1, 2008 and within the Appalachian Region as designated by the ARC. View a map of the ARC designated Appalachian Region.

If you are chosen as one of the finalists, you will be required to submit a print quality file of the chosen photo.

Photos must be submitted by May 2, 2011.

There are no fees associated with this contest.

Judging Criteria
Contest will be judged based on photos' 1. Relevance 2. Composition 3. Creativity 4. Technical quality 5. Overall Impression

Judges will be a mixed collection of photography professionals and educators, who are not employed by the University of Kentucky. Judging with take place starting May 3, 2011 and end June 1, 2011.

1. The entrant is responsible for any release forms. This applies to photographs that have a person, or another person’s work of art as a direct subject.
2. By submitting photos, entrants grant UKAC a royalty-free, world-wide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to display, distribute, reproduce, and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed, for any UKAC purpose, including, but not limited to advertising and promotion, exhibition, and commercial products.

Right to Cancel or Suspend Contest
If for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as planned, due to infection by computer virus, bugs, worms, trojan horses, denial of service attacks, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of UKAC that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, UKAC reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual(s) who tamper with the entry process, and/or to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contest. If UKAC elects to cancel or terminate the Contest, UKAC will not retain any rights in the submitted photographs.

Limitation of Liability
By entering this Contest, all entrants agree to release, discharge, and hold harmless UKAC and its partners, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising agencies, agents and their employees, officers, directors, and representatives from any claims, losses, and damages arising out of their participation in this Contest or any Contest-related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any prize awarded hereunder.

UKAC assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, or delay in operation or transmission; communications line failure; theft or destruction of or unauthorized access to Contest entries or entry forms; or alteration of entries or entry forms. UKAC is not responsible for any problems with or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, human errors of any kind, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to entrants' or any other persons' computers related to or resulting from participation, uploading or downloading of any materials related to in this Contest.
